Chris Wormley

Position: Defensive End/Defensive Tackle

College: Michigan

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 295

Awards: 2015 third team All-Big 10, 2016: first team All-Big 10

Highest pick on the NFL Draft Board: Walter Football has Chris Wormley going to the Washington Redskins with pick #17

Consensus pick on the NFL Draft Board: The NFL Draft Board only shows Chris Wormley showing up once on the board going to the Washington Redskins with pick #17

Consensus ranking on the NFL Draft Board by Position: Chris Wormley is not like any other defensive lineman ahead of him on the NFL Draft Board. Wormley is almost a tweener between a defensive end and defensive tackle. He isn’t a true edge rusher, nor is he a true anchor in the middle of the line. If an NFL team know how to use him, he could be a diamond in the rough. Beyond that, as a defensive tackle, he would be the fourth defensive tackle to show up on the NFL Draft Board behind Caleb Brantley. As a defensive end, Wormley would be the seventh defensive end/outside linebacker to show up and the NFL Draft Board behind Takkarist McKinley

Notes:

  • Slow first step out of his stance
  • Will coast at the end of a play occasionally
  • Gets good leverage with low pads
  • Solid anchor point, however may be a little light initially for the NFL
  • Adequate pass rusher, relies on power, a few more techniques taught by a good NFL defensive line coach will pay off
  • A great space eater, but seems to be satisfied with just eating space sometimes and not flowing to the ball
  • Most likely a second or third round draft choice that can anchor a defensive line, but probably not a future Pro Bowl prospect
